I teach renewable energy courses at the Department of Energy Technology at both undergraduate and postgraduate. Solar energy is my area of specialization. I am currently undertaking research in solar water pasteurization for rural institutions and pasteurization of camel milk using concentrated solar energy Technology.

Motivation

I have found the workshop topics and objectives very interesting and willing to learn more about the model of the Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany. The concept could be replicated in our county to produce graduate who are ready and relevant to industry needs. Currently industry complain they have to retrain our university graduates as they lack the relevant skills as per their expectation.

Relevant insights learnt during the workshop week

  1. Better understanding of the concept of the University of Applied Sciences through seminar lectures delivered.
  2. Strong linkage/ partnership between the University and Industry as witnessed by the industrial visits. This brings a win-win situation for both.
  3. Appreciation of the exposure of how Germans in general conduct their activities, culture and history.

Intentions how to apply these insights at home

  1. Very relevant model to be replicated, by sharing with the university administration
  2. Use knowledge, information and materials to disseminate the idea of the Applied Science University to colleagues.
  3. Procedures of curriculum development
