Coordination of Partnerships, Research and Innovation Programmes

The Institute of Research, Innovation and Extension (IRIE) was one of the Directorates that existed at the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM). IRIE has now been transformed into the office of the Registrar Partnership Research and Innovation (PRI) whose overall mandate is strengthen and coordinate Partnership, Research and Innovation programmes at TUM.

Consequently, TUM held its 1st Multidisciplinary Conference and innovation week from 1st -5th April 2019. This provided a forum to initiate mutually beneficial collaborations and networking among researchers, innovators and the industry.

Intellectual property training was also conducted to promote commercialization of innovations and transfer of technology for development

Integrating Research with Teaching at TUM

  • TUM curriculum have been revised to introduce conceptual seminars in all departments.
  • Liaison officers were appointed to facilitate industry linkages and companies were encouraged to initiate projects with students in their final year research dissertation.
  • An MoU between TUM and Kenya Association of Manufacturers was signed in January 2019. This will forge further collaborations with industrial partners and assist students attachment in industries.
  • TUM Research Policy that outlines the Code of Conduct for Research has now been approved.
  • In March 2019, TUM Ethics Review Committee was accredited by NACOSTI
