Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wilfried Zörner holds a diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Dipl.Ing.) from Technical University of Munich (Germany) and the University of Bath (United Kingdom) and a Ph.D. degree (Dr.Ing.) from Technical University of Munich. Since 1998, he serves as professor for design and development at THI. His teaching is focused on renewable energy technologies, in particular bio and solar energy systems. He initiated the establishment of the Bachelor’s degree course ‘Energy Engineering & Renewable Energy Technologies’ as well as the Master’s degree course ‘Renewable Energy Systems’ and is in charge of academic internationalisation and project activities with African partners.

As head of institute, he leads a team of 25 researchers and co-manages a research budget of approximately €6 million acquired from regional, national and international funding institutions. InES mainly carries out cooperative research with industry, universities and research institutes on national and international level.

The institute’s international activities focus on Europe and Africa. Prof. Zörner is a member of numerous national and international organisations and author of more than 100 publications in the field of renewable energies. Before joining THI, he worked for an international company for plant engineering and construction in the railway business for 7 years.
